Thoughts on Net Worth

Why the choice between being rich and being happy is a false dichotomy — and why the universe needs you to be both.

Your net worth is a measure of the value you have accrued in your life on the planet so far.

How is it stored?

Money versus Happiness

  1. If your net worth is stored in money, then it is finite. It has the potential to run out. Its value can be shared, but each time it is shared, it diminishes the supply. And when it is shared, it can only be shared in a finite way, with a finite number of people.

  2. If your net worth is entirely built of happiness, it can never run out. It is infinite. And every time the value is shared, it increases the supply. Everyone wins.

However, there’s no dichotomy here. There’s no reason you can’t have both!

The idea that you’re either rich OR happy is a false dichotomy — similar to the Fat/Happy false dichotomy I wrote about in an earlier post. And this is a HUGE part of most people’s scripts. Our scripts seduce us into thinking that not being wealthy is good since we would rather be happy.

Again I’m going to list 4 possible choices for us all:

  1. Rich and Happy
  2. Rich and Miserable
  3. Poor and Happy
  4. Poor and Miserable

Forget about me. Forget about what I’M saying. What would YOU choose for yourself?

No, really.

No ‘yeah buts’.

Just what WOULD you choose?

And if your script has got you so deeply into it that you can’t really work it out… think of that significant 5 year old in your life. Your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, younger sister, godson, whatever:

Picture them now.

What would you choose for them?

I want you all to be happy. I want you all to be happy right now, because those feelings are inside you. Right now. You can have them TODAY. Only your script will say you can’t.

And I want you all to be rich.

Why?

Because the universe NEEDS people like you to be rich in order to do its great work. The bringing about of ‘more life to all of humanity.’

I’m going to be writing about this a lot.

Why?

Because just about the only thing we think about more than food is money.

Let’s be amazing.
